Ghana Armed Forces entertains the public with music

Kumasi, Nov 5, GNA - The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Band on Friday entertained the public with concert in the form of music in Kumasi as part of activities towards the 60th Remembrance Day anniversary celebration which falls on November 11. The 50-man band under the leadership of Warrant Officer Class One Owusu Bonsu, entertained the public in highlife and other music displays. The audience, who were overwhelmed by the performance of the band, in turn also cheered them on.

Addressing the gathering later, Colonel E.D.F. Prah (Rtd), Executive Director of the Veteran Association of Ghana (VAG), said the celebration of the occasion is to commemorate Ghana's soldiers who lost their lives in the World wars. He said the occasion is celebrated by the wearing of red poppies as a symbol of sacrifice of the lost heroes and that the VAG uses the period to raise funds to cater for the retired soldiers.

Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia V, Bantamahene and the guest of honour, on his part said, "A nation which does not recognize its heroes cannot be a good nation". He used the opportunity to launch the Poppy Fund and appealed to individuals, institutions and organizations to donate towards the fund.

In attendance to grace the occasion were Brigadier-General J.N. Adinkra, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Lieutenant-Colonel Senyo Arye, Commanding Officer of the Fourth Battalion of Infantry (4BN) and Brigadier-General G.N. Goumil (rtd), former General Officer Commanding the Northern Command.
