The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), Thursday expressed its condolences to Dr. Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, the entire family, the Government and people of Ghana over the death of President John Evans Atta Mills.
A statement issued by the Commission in Accra recalled the institutions’ association with the late President Mills that dated back to the 1960s when he stayed in one of its residential flats whilst teaching at the University of Ghana, Legon.
It said the demise of President Mills was a blow to the development of science and technology in the country.
The statement said: “Memories of his invaluable support for the development of science and technology in areas such as provision of vehicles and laboratory equipment to the Commission and the GAEC Clinic when he was the Vice President cannot be forgotten.”
“We also remember his commitment to science and technology, especially his recent pronouncement during the science and technology awards ceremony to increase funds for the promotion of science and technology in Ghana.**
