Ghana National Gas Limited Company (Ghana Gas), in partnership with the Ellembelle District Assembly, has launched an Eco Brigade Programme to promote cleaner beaches and create jobs for residents in project-affected communities.

The programme was launched by the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Judith Adjobah Blay, together with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

Under the programme, 250 men and women have been employed to undertake daily beach-cleaning activities.

Their work includes removing plastic bottles, sachet-water rubbers, discarded fishing nets and other waste materials from the shoreline.

The initiative forms part of Ghana Gas's Corporate Social Responsibility commitments and is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, community development and improved livelihoods in its operational areas.

The Eco Brigade Programme is also expected to help reduce marine pollution and encourage responsible waste management among residents.

The programme will benefit several coastal communities, including Atuabo, Asemda Suazo, Anokyi, Baku, Ngalekyi, Ngalekpole, Eikwe, Krisan, Sanzule, Bakanta, Azuleloanu, Esiama, Kikam, Asemko, Bobrama, Asanta and Ankobra.

Ghana Gas said the partnership with the Ellembelle District Assembly would strengthen collaboration with local authorities and communities to address coastal sanitation challenges.

The Company said the programme demonstrates how environmental protection can be combined with economic empowerment by creating employment while improving the coastal environment.

It added that the initiative reflects its commitment to ensuring that its presence in project-affected communities delivers economic, environmental and social benefits.
