In commemoration of the 2026 International Mother Language Day (IMLD) the Ghana Library Authority is to hosts its maiden library conversation dubbed “Language Preserved on Pages.”

This even is a conversation focused on exploring the role of books, in this context, translation of literary materials into indigenous languages.

It is also a means towards the preservation and promotion of Ghanaian languages.

Designed to spotlight poet Professor Ladé Wosornu’s translated poems, the event is set to host a conversation and review of his translated poems.

The panel will be made up of Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh (senior lecturer, University of Education-Winneba), Dr Sarah Dorgbadzi (Senior Lecturer, School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana), and Richardson Fio Commey (Policy Expert and Special Aide to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts).

It will also feature performances/reading of the translated poems, as well as a one-on-one interaction with Professor Ladé Wosornu.

Speaking ahead of the event, Alhassan Ziblim, Ag Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority, stated that:

“One of the core mandates of the library is to archive knowledge about the Ghanaian heritage, language inclusive and thus, one of the driving reasons behind 'Languages Preserved on Pages' to mark this year’s International Mother Language Day."

The Special Guest of Honour for this all-important event would be Dr Clement Abas Apaak, Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Ghana.

He would be supported by Edmond Moukala, the Country Representative of UNESCO in Ghana, and other dignitaries.

“Languages Preserved on Pages” is scheduled to take place at the main conference hall of the Ghana Library Authority Headquarters on Friday, February 20, 2026.
