The Ghana Technology University (GTUC) has admitted 553 fresh students, bringing the total population of the college to 5,445.
Out of the total, 958 are foreign students from over 20 countries.
The fresh students have been admitted to pursue varied diploma, degree and doctor of philosophy programmes, spanning across fields of professional and development courses.
Speaking at the college's 16th matriculation ceremony, Dr Kwasi Darkwa, President of GTUC, described the university college as an institution built on years of hard work, excellence and dedication.
He said the fresh men and women constitute the nucleus to drive the development of Ghana and Africa, adding that, “It is you who make the education sector drive.”
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and critically and we will provide you with the tools to enable you to achieve this vision,” he added.
The ceremony provided the students the platform to take the matriculation oath that signified their formal admission into the University College.
The oath enjoined them to be of good behavior and obedient to the rules and regulations of the school.
The GTUC has made some significant strides over the last couple of years in the delivery of quality technology education.
Dr Darkwa mentioned the priority areas of the college as physical and infrastructural expansion, consolidation of existing partnerships and establishing new ones, promoting research and scholarship and promoting online or virtual education.
The rest are embarking on university automation, Fundraising to support programmes and projects as well as instituting the President’s scholarship for needy but brilliant students.
“All of these interventions I trust will enhance our service delivery and make GTUC a better option for quality tertiary education,” he said.
He advised the students to exploit their potentials to deal successfully with the challenges of new life in Ghana, adding that, “we are here to assist you to succeed.”
