Accra, Jan. 17, GNA - Mr Ebenezer Akuaku, Chief Executive Director of Key Advertising Agency (KAA), on Wednesday said, the celebration of Ghanaian women for their immense contribution to the country's development over the past 50 years, should be given a special place in the Ghana@50 celebrations.
He told the Ghana News Agency that it was no secret that over the past 50 years Ghanaian women had been relentless and committed to ensuring peace, progress and sustainable development of Ghana, playing painstaking roles in various capacities, at various levels and positions.
"In acknowledgement of the role of Ghanaian women in our society, KAA has introduced the Median National Women Excellence Awards 2007 (MNWEA), under the theme "Well done, Mother Ghana," he said.
Mr Akuaku said the award scheme would recognise and reward women achievers in the country's political, economic, social, religious and traditional sectors, adding that the scheme would be given exposure in the local and international media.
He noted that the objective of the scheme would also honour women, who have excelled in their profession, with the view to inspiring younger women to aspire and achieve higher goals.
"The awards will be in three categories, namely personal achievers award, special honours award and recognition award", he said.
Mr Akuaku said the personal achievers award was targeted at individuals, enterprises in the private sector making significant contribution towards the promotion and growth of the economy. The special honours award is targeted at women whose work and contribution has made positive impact on society and national development in their field of profession and the recognition award would go to institutions and organizations, which have dedicated themselves to champion the cause of women.
Mr Akuaku said a panel of judges were constituted to look at a list of women achievers to be considered for awards, adding that in the course of time the general public would be presented with a list of names to vote via mobile phone text messaging.
"Public votes would constitute 70 per cent of the marks and the remaining 30 per cent would be from the judges," he said Mr Akuaku said in addition to the awards night, a three-day public lecture on how women could continue to make contributions to national development in the post Ghana@50 era would be held.
