The Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop of Kumasi, the Most Reverend Gabriel Yaw Anokye, has called on Ghanaians to collectively contribute to the development of education in the country.
He said: “The State, Church, teachers, community and the students themselves must play a role in promoting excellence in the educational sector.”
Archbishop Anokye was speaking at a Speech and Prize-giving Day of the Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, at Nyinahin in the Atwima-Mponua District.
It was on the theme: “Government-Church Partnership in Education Delivery in the 21st Century, Prospects and Challenges”.
Archbishop Anokye appealed to students to be disciplined and study hard so that they could pass their examinations, to justify the huge investments being made in their education by their parents and government.
He pledged that the Catholic Church would continue to collaborate with the sate and other stakeholders to improve the quality of education and said the church had established educational institutions in the country.
Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, said government was determined to provide schools with educational infrastructure and logistics.
Mr. Akwasi Boateng Acheampong, headmaster, appealed to individuals and organisations to support the school to acquire a bus and adequate accommodation for students and teachers.**
