Mr Alex Obu Simpson, the Deputy Manager Training and Development of Bogoso-Prestea Golden Star Mining Company, has called on parents and other stakeholders to stop blaming each on the falling standards of education in the country.
According to him “time has come for every Ghanaian to contribute a little to complement the efforts of the government and other development partners to promote education”.
Mr Simpson said this at the 15th Speech and Prize Giving day Celebration of the St John Preparatory School at Kwansakrom in the Agona East District.
He expressed concern that some parents failed to invest in their education but used their money to buy expensive shoes, funeral cloths and other unnecessary things to the disadvantage of the children.
Mr Simpson said the government was doing its best to improve the standard of education by providing school buildings, exercise books and school uniforms.
He said results of Basic Education Certificate Examination in the Agona West and Agona East Districts showed that public schools were playing second fiddle to private schools.
Mr John Quarcoe, the Director of the School, said the school had given scholarships to 25 brilliant but needy students in the area as part of its social responsibility.
Mr Quarcoe said some SHS leavers who cannot make it to the universities due to financial difficulties have been given appointment as teachers to enable them save money to continue their education in future.
The Director called on non-governmental organizations and other development partners to come to the aid of the school to improve it structures to enhance quality teaching and learning.
Mr Kofi Nyame, Headmaster of the school, commended parents for their cooperation and immense contributions towards the development of the school. **
