Ghanaians must cherish continuous peace

Ghanaians must be proud of the sustained peaceful atmosphere in the country when their neighbours continue to experience political unrest. They should, therefore, do everything possible to sustain the peace to enhance the development of the nation.

The District Chief Executive for Jomoro, Mr Sylvester Dadieh, said this at the 55th Independence Anniversary celebration in the Jomoro District at Half Assini in the Western Region, on Tuesday.

He said the NDC Government was committed to ensuring peace and urged the citizenry to continue to support it.

The DCE said the Assembly recognised the role education played in the socio-economic development and had, therefore, put in place measures to promote it.

Mr Dadieh said the Assembly spent GHC11,950.00 in the 2010-2011 academic year on sponsorship to tertiary institutions.

He said to improve upon the results of the Basic Education Certificate Examination, the Assembly has supported the District Education Directorate with GHC5,000 to organise mock examinations for JSS Three Students who would be writing their final examination this year.

The Assembly had also constructed nine new school blocks to ease congestion in some schools in the district and distributed 9,955 school uniforms.

The DCE said the government recognised the role of skills and technology transform to micro-and small skill enterprises in national development hence the inauguration of Rural Technology Facility and Local Enterprises and Skill Development programmes.

He asked the people to register when the biometric registration exercise begins in this moth to enable them vote in the December elections.
