Saltpond (C/R), July 5, GNA - Nana Antwi Boasiako II, Ankobeahen of Abeadze Traditional Area, has called on Ghanaians to bring back the practice where children accord respect and assistance to elders.
Recalling some of the practices, he said, the practice where children were quick to get up and offer their seats to elders in buses and public places should also be brought back.
Nana Boasiako made the call at a reception organized by Mfantseman Municipal Assembly at Saltpond for senior citizens in connection with the celebration of the 51st Republic Day.
The chief said lack of respect for adults these days was worrying and appealed to parents to strive to instill good moral disciplines in their children.
Nana Boasiako, who represented Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi, President of Central Region House of Chiefs, and a member of Council of State, noted that marriages these days often ended on the rocks because couples did not allow their parents to select their partners for them.
For marriages to last, he said, there was a need for parents to play a role in the selection process.
Mr Abraham Mensah, a retired civil servant, appealed to government to see to the welfare of retirees well to enable them to live well and long.
Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive, urged senior citizens to reciprocate the recognition government had given them by availing their expertise and experiences at the disposal of the youth.
He appealed to the senior citizens to take very good care of their health by staying away from things which could endanger their health.
