Ghanaians urged to ensure productivity in 2007

Agona Swedru, Jan 5, GNA - The Reverend Charles Arkoh-Nunoo, Central Regional Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, has called on Ghanaians to take their destiny into their hands to enhance productivity.

He called for a change in the attitude of some public and civil servants to promote development for the people to enjoy improved living conditions.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Swedru, Rev Arkoh-Nunoo urged Ghanaians to direct their efforts towards the socio-economic advancement of the country.

He stressed the need for effective long-term planning for the benefit of the nation instead of economic woes, hunger and disease. Rev Arkoh-Nunoo asked the people to commit themselves to God, saying, "One must have a well planned life either in education, agriculture, medicine and the professions to succeed with God's protection".

He noted that as Ghana marked its 50th Independence anniversary this year, there was the need to draw concrete plans to make the country a better place to live in.

The Reverend Lawrence Ebow Odoom, Head Pastor of the Agona Swedru branch of the Church of Christ, asked Ghanaians to allow God to direct and lead the country.

He stressed the need to reconcile the people to facilitate the socio-economic and political advancement of the nation and to promote peace and stability.

Rev Odoom appealed to the minority parties in Parliament to offer constructive alternatives to government plans and programmes and to support good policies for the country's advancement.

The Reverend Paul Gyasi-Acheampong, District Head Pastor of the Damascus Christian Church, in a new year message called for unity and peace, which he said were a perquisite for national development. He called for co-operation between the government and the minority parties to ensure 93A better Ghana".

Rev Gyasi-Acheampong expressed concern about the strained relations between the former President, Mr. J J Rawlings and the Head of State, President John Agyekum Kufuor and urged religious leaders in the country not to give up on their efforts to reconcile them.
