Ghanaians urged to save for the future

Wamfie (B/A), April 21, GNA - Dormaa Teachers Cooperative Credit Union has opened an agency at Wamfie, capital of the newly created Dormaa East district with a call on Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of saving towards their comfort during old age.

Mr. Budu Amo-Owusu, the Union's Board Chairman, made the appeal when he outlined the achievements of the credit union over its 31 years of existence.

He said the union had a total asset of GH¢ 100,000, while over GH¢ 70,000.00 had been given out as loans to members.

Mr. Amo-Owusu announced that an office complex under construction at Dormaa-Ahenkro was expected to be completed in December to provide permanent offices for the union.

He assured members of management's desire to maintain prudent fiscal policies coupled with good managerial skills in their bid to make the union exceptional, among such institutions.

Cutting the sod to open the office, the District Chief Executive, Squadron Leader Ben Anane Asamoah (Rtd) urged his people to learn from the proverbial ant, "which sees wisdom in gathering food for the future".

He stressed that when it came to savings no amount was either too big or too small adding, "the commitment to do it is what matters". Mr. James Ameyaw, Manager of the credit union, suggested to the people in the district to adopt "10-10-80", in which they used their 10 percent of income on tithes, 10 percent for savings and the remaining 80 percent for their monthly upkeep.
