The Calvary Assembly, Koforidua Central of the Assemblies of God, Ghana in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region has organized its annual end of year party for the Aged, Widows, Street Children and the Ghettos guys within the municipality for the fourth time.

The annual programme which took place this year at Partners May Hotel dubbed “ANIDASOA WO HO” was this year sponsored by JOY INDUSTRIES LIMITED producers of Joy Ointment, Joy medicated soap and many others saw more than 250 persons received cloths in addition to rice as their Christmas gifts from the church.

Addressing the ceremony, the immediate past Regional Superintendent who is also the head pastor of the church, Rev. Alex Ofori Amankwaa said Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Christ because “He was the greatest gift God has provided”.

“Christmas is, therefore, celebrating the gift of God and the gift is also the reason for mankind to give and share with others in the society, especially the needy and the neglected ones during such festivities like Christmas”. He said.

Rev. Alex Ofori Amankwaa, later in an interviewed said, the church decided to invites the ghetto ‘guys’ and the street children to the party to let them know that there is a better future for them and that all is not lost as some of them may think maybe there is no future for them. Again to let them understand that there are people out there who still care about them and they can count on them.

He has therefore, challenge Christians to see such people (ghetto people and the street children) as one of them but should not regard them as outcast in the society they live in.

He further said, the church will soon register the street children and the ghetto guys who are not registered with the NHIS. Currently the church is housing 15 of the street children and has enrolled them into school with a scholarship grant.

Rev. Amankwaa has therefore; called on individuals, institutions and organizations to come to their aid to sponsor them in order to bring more smiles to the faces of these people and by so doing can help reduce the canker in the society.

According to Rev. Amankwaa, Jesus was able to fulfill his assignment because of the love for God and if one use God’s gift and the love for Him to minister; he would serve as instruments of reconciliation for all manner of people.

The organizers of the event used the occasion to invites resources persons from the Ghana Police Service Regional Command and the Social Welfare Department to talk to them more especially the street children and the ghetto ‘guys’ in a way of advising them not to involved themselves in no criminal acts which will later endanger their lives by letting the law get hook of them. But rather should live a worthy life which will benefit the society they are living in.
