Goldfields donate to Akoon community

Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL), Tarkwa mine has donated 30 pieces of overall uniforms and safety boots to the Akoon neigbourhood watch committee.

Presenting the items, Mr Robert Siaw, Sustainable Development Manager, Tarkwa mine said due to the breach of security recorded within Akoon and its environs, the community formed a watch committee to enable members to carry out patrols and safeguard lives and property.

Mr Siaw said as a responsible partner in development, GGL decided to donate the items worth GHC8,000.00 to aid the activities of the committee as part of measures to enhance relationship with the host communities.

He challenged the people to ensure that the crime rate is minimised while the GGL strives to improve the security standards in its catchment communities.

Receiving the items on behalf of the community, Police Chief Inspector Joseph Bossman Asamoah, Officer in charge of the Tarkwa Divisional Community Policing, said the finger prints of recruits have been taken to ensure that only credible people are engaged in the security operations.

Inspector Asamoah appealed to the people Tarkwa and its surrounding communities to form watchdogs to help bridge the gap between the police and the people.

He called on the community to motivate those who have voluntarily opted to help improve security situation by contributing towards their allowances.

Nana Abban, Chief of Akoon, expressed the community’s appreciation to GGL.
