Gomoa Abrekum (C/R), Dec. 31, GNA - The chiefs and people of Gomoa Abrekum near Apam are undertaking a five-year development programme to give a facelift to the town at the cost of two billion cedis.
The project that would be undertaken in phases includes the construction of a block of four classrooms, office and a store and a clinic.
Mr. Joseph Kwesi Donkor, President of the Gomoa Abrekum Development Committee said this during the installation of Nana Ekua Otwuwoa II as the Queen mother of the town.
The people would undertake the projects through self-help and voluntary contribution.
Mr. Donkor said the community provided 30 poles, Nana Otwuwoa provided 25 and Mr. Obed Danquah, a citizen of the town based in Accra, gave them 15 poles.
The President said the Gomoa District Assembly later took over the project since the poles were erected some two years ago but it has come to a standstill because the contractor engaged on the work claimed the Assembly had not supplied him the required materials to complete it. Mr. Donkor appealed to the District Assembly to provide the necessary materials to complete the work.
He also appealed to the government and the Ghana Education Service to help finish work on the classroom block that had come to a halt due to lack of funds.
Nana Otwuwoa appealed to the Gomoa District Assembly and the Department of Feeder Roads to help rehabilitate the four-kilometer feeder road linking the town with the Winneba/Mankessim trunk road. Opanyin Joseph Abaka Sassah, Abusuapanyin of the town, expressed regret that despite the introduction of the Capitation Grant and the school-feeding programme there are a lot of children still out of school.
He therefore appealed to parents to make sure that their wards are in school. 31 Dec 06
