Gomoa District Council of Labour rejects using SSNIT contributions for Health Insurance.

The Gomoa District Council of Labour (DCL) has rejected the government's decision to use 2.5 per cent of workers' social security contributions to finance the Health Insurance Scheme.

The workers said in a resolution passed after a meeting that since the social security was workers' hope for the future diverting part of it into something else would jeopardise their plans.

It said as much as they welcomed the Health Insurance Scheme they wished to appeal to the government to raise money from other sources to support it.

The resolution called on the government to restore Cap 30 Pension Scheme to all categories of workers to ensure fairness and equal treatment.

Addressing the meeting Mr Adjei Ntim, Central Regional Industrial Relations Officer for Health Services Workers Union, advised workers to ensure that they explored all laid down channels for conflict resolution before going on strike.

He said Unionists would not go to the aid of workers, who would go on strike without going through the approved channels.

Mr Jerry Essien, Chairman of the DCL commended, the Gomoa District Administration, for consenting to provide a vehicle to convey workers to the celebration of this year's May Day at Twifu Prasu.
