Dawurampong (CR), Oct 20, GNA - The Gomoa District Directorate of Education has launched a programme to promote the education of girls in the District.
Route marches are being organised at the circuit centres and schools with placards produced by the Girl Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service in collaboration with the UNICEF to sensitise parents on the need to send their children to school with emphasis on the girl-child.
The children, teachers and parents would later converge at durbar grounds for officers from the District office to address them on the importance of the education of the girl-child. Ms Teresa Paidoo, District Girls Education Officer, Ms Margaret Eduah, District Early Childhood Development Officer and Ms Esther Boansi, District School Health Education Programme Officer, would be spearheading the exercise.
At Dawurampong, Ms Paidoo advised schoolgirls; to select role model in their communities and pay regular visits to them to seek advice and guidance.
The officer appealed to enlightened women especially those holding key positions in the society to pay regular visits to schools to interact with the girls.
A girl in a primary school will feel highly privileged to interact with a woman Minister or a woman District Chief Executive, Ms Paidoo stated and called on such people to have time for the young girls. Ms Eduah advised parents especially mothers not to over burden their children with household chores and to give them enough time to study and rest.
Ms Boansi expressed concern about engaging young girls as bread winners and said such situations had negative impact on their education and advised fathers to support their wives in the up keep of the home.
