The Gomoa East District Assembly on Thursday approved President Mahama’s nominee, Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah as District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area for another four years.
Twenty-Six out of the 39 members present voted for him, while 13 cast their votes against Mr Ahunu-Armah who was re-nominated by President Mahama three weeks ago.
The election was supervised by Mr Moses Tia Wuni, Gomoa East District Electoral Director.
Before the election proceeded, four new government appointees were sworn in by Mr Charles Wiafe, Apam Magistrate Court Judge.
Earlier, the two Paramount Chiefs of Gomoa Akyempim and Ajumako Traditional Areas, Obirifo Ahor Ankobea and Obrempong Yamfo Krampah XI advised assembly members to desist from habits that would thwart the efforts of the government.
They said the first four-year term administration of Mr Ahunu-Armah had improved education, roads and health facilities in the district.
Mr Samuel Sarpong, Central Regional Minister commended the members for approving the President’s nominee.
He assured that the government under President Mahama would continue to pursue prudent economic policies for the country’s development.
Mr Sarpong urged the district assemblies to deepen their relations with traditional rulers, adding that, without the support of chiefs, it would be difficult for assemblies to attain development.
Mr Ahunu-Armah thanked assembly members for the confidence reposed in him by endorsing his nomination. He pledged to work harder to propel the second phase of the Better Ghana Agenda embarked upon by President Mahama to improve socio-economic well-being of Ghanaians.
