Gomoa district records poor BECE result in 2006

Apam (C/R), Sept. 27, GNA - The Gomoa District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service has expressed disappointment about the poor results of schools in the district in the 2006 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The District Director of Education, Mrs Emma Baaba Quarcoo told the Ghana News Agency that this year's results have been the worse for the Gomoa District in six years.

She did not provide details of the results but said some measures were being put in place by the directorate to address the situation. Mrs Quarcoo said the directorate had discussed with school heads some strategies for improving teaching, learning and supervision. For example, she said, children should be exposed to the use of English language because 93a language is learnt through exposure to it=94, adding that it had been realized that many children do not read and speak the English language frequently.

The District Director also asked teachers to be punctual and committed to their work.

Mr Samuel Sessah, an Assistant director in-charge of Human Resource, said under the Youth Employment Programme, the directorate had been given the mandate to fill all vacancies in the classrooms.
