Government Committed To solving the inadequacies in education

Ho, April 3 GNA - Mr Kwasi Aboagye, Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress on Friday re-assured the people of the region that government was committed to solving all the inadequacies in the education sector.

Mr Aboagye, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, said the ground-breaking exercise performed by President John E. A. Mills at the University of Health and Allied Sciences commenced the processes for actual work to begin. Mr Aboagye noted that around the world Universities spring-up from satellite campuses and hostels and in time become first class structures.

He added that the University of Ghana, Legon, for instance, commenced from a chapel building before assuming its present stature stating that the 93beginning of any venture was difficult one but we shall triumph."

"We need not sink huge buildings in the soil to prove that we are serious about building a University, but time would show" the Regional Chairman said.

Mr Aboagye added that, preliminary work including land acquisition and temporary infrastructure for first intakes have been cleared and are now in the phase of recruitment of teaching, non-teaching and secretarial staff.

On roads, Mr Aboagye said works are far advanced on the region's major networks namely, the Tema-Aflao, Akatsi-Tadzewu-Dzodze and Sogakope-Adidome-Ho-Fume stretches.

He said soon to begin is the eastern corridor roads that would link Volta to the Northern region.

He said funding and designs have been completed and are only awaiting approval of the Bill in Parliament for the commencement of work. The Regional Chairman said four roads in cocoa growing areas in the region have also been earmarked for construction. On the re-packaged Micro Finance Small Loans Centres (MASLOC), he said pilot programmes are being test-run in seven districts and reports indicate an improvement of about 98 percent recovery rates in the region.

Mr Aboagye praised party activists for tabling their grievances in an acceptable.
