Government awards contract on Obo-Aduamoah feeder road

Aduamoah-Kwahu(E/R), Aug. 25, GNA - Government has awarded contract for the construction of the 4.043 kilometre Obo-Aduamoah road in the Kwahu South District at an estimated cost of 1.6 billion cedis under the Community-Based Rural Development Programme (CBRDP).

The contract between the two communities, assembly, Consultant and the Contractor for commencement of the project was signed at Aduamoah last Wednesday.

Addressing Chiefs and people from the two communities after the signing ceremony, Nana Kofi Onwona Asante, Kwahu South District Chief Executive, said the project was being financed from a 72-million-dollar loan from the World Bank and the French government under the CBRDP. Other projects to be financed under the CBRDP include construction of markets, roads, schools, health centres and boreholes. Nana Asante said 1,340 pupils were benefiting from the School Feeding Programme at Mpraeso and Hweehwee, and advised parents to send their children to school to reduce the high illiteracy rate in the country.

He urged the people to participate in the district level elections to elect competent candidates to lead them to undertake meaningful development projects to enhance their living standards.

The DCE urged the people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to access affordable and better health care delivery. Mr Eugene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, advised the people to take advantage of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) to venture into agriculture and aqua culture to improve their capital base. Nana Onini Afare II, Chief of Aduamoa and Benkumhene of Kwahu Traditional area, commended the government for undertaking the construction of the road that begun in the 1930's but abandoned. He advised people from the two communities to co-operate with the construction firm for early completion of the project.
