Nkoranza (B/A) Aug. 16 GNA - Mr Smart Tommy Jones, Nkoranza South District Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), has described the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as 93a promise fulfilling" one and that it would ensure an improvement in the living standards of the people.
He emphasized the need for the youth to rally behind the NDC and vote massively to retain the government in power during the 2012 general elections to enable it to initiate more laudable policies and programmes to improve the living standards of the entire citizenry. Mr Jones was addressing a meeting of over 200 youth from Nkoranza during which he presented sewing machines to 32 dressmakers and beneficiaries of the NTEP dressmaking module. Mr Jones said the provision of the sewing machines for he trainees was a manifestation that President John Evans Atta Mills has not forgotten his 2008 campaign promises which included readiness to support the unemployed youth to improve upon their livelihood.
He urged the beneficiaries to handle the sewing machines with care and use them for the intended purposes to earn a living in order not to become liabilities in the communities. Mr Jones disclosed that about 136 of such youth were being trained in the same trade whilst 160 were also undergoing training in hairdressing. He said the trainees would be provided with their various working tool= s on completion of their training. Mr Raymond Gbedoah, Nkoranza South District Coordinating Director, advised the beneficiaries to be self-disciplined, hardworking and trustworthy so that they would attract more customers to promote their business activities. He said the District Assembly would visit their work places to track their movements and activities in order to be responsible in the performanc= e of their duties for a brighter future. He called on the authorities of the NYEP to organise regular in-servic= e training and refresher courses to keep the trainees abreast with current trends in their trade.
Mr Francis Nyarko, Nkoranza South District Fire Officer, who presided, commended the Government for creating the necessary job avenues for the youth to guard them against social vices and negative practices that could affect their welbeing.
