Government donates 200 bags of rice, sugar for Ramadan

Government has presented 100 bags of rice and 100 bags of sugar each (50 kilogrammes) to the Muslim community and traditional authorities in Tamalein the Northern Region, to mark the beginning of the Ramadan festive season.

Mr. Moses Buakri Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister presented the items on behalf of Government to representatives of Muslim groups and traditional authorities at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Tamale, on Friday.

Some of the Muslim groups included the Ahamadiya Muslim Mission and the Anbariya Muslim Group and traditional authorities such as Gukpena and Dakpema.

Muslims across the country on Friday began a month-long fasting season, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.

Mr. Mabengba said, “Ramadan season as the beginning of their lives and a period to turn into new leafs.”

He, on this score, called on Muslims to refrain from deviant behaviours and endeavour to be peace loving people.

Alhaji Saeed Moomem, who is in-charge of the Elders of the Ahamadiya Muslim Mission in Tamale, spoke on behalf of the representatives thanking government for the gesture.**
