Government lauded for Youth in agriculture policy

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Dec. 30, GNA - Alhaji Mumuni Musah, Dormaa-West Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has lauded government's decision to introduce the Youth in Agriculture project, saying, it was the best strategy by a government to provide employment for the teeming youth.

He noted the policy would also enable the government to succeed in luring those engaged in menial jobs in urban centres back to their communities to contribute to the development process. Speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Dormaa-Ahenkro, Alhaji Musah, a prominent poultry farmer urged the youth to discard the erroneous notion that agriculture was the preserve of school dropouts and the handicapped.

He noted that government had amply demonstrated its readiness to provide employment for Ghanaians through pragmatic efforts at state and private sectors of the economy.

Alhaji Musah expressed the hope that the food crisis that hit poultry farmers in the Dormaa District and its environs in the early part of the year would not occur again and urged colleague poultry farmers to expand their farms.

He attributed the situation to the political crisis in La Cote d'Ivoire, which he said compelled importers to divert foodstuffs to that country, as well as the reluctance of businessmen to import in the 2004 election year.

The farmer pledged the readiness of poultry farmers in the district to offer expert advice to persons interested in poultry.
