Cape Coast, Oct. 28, GNA - The Government has instituted measures to forestall the diversion of premix fuel from Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), to unknown destination by some unscrupulous fuel tanker drivers. Consequently, a new official embossment form has been issued by TOR and tanker drivers are required to inform beneficiary chief fishermen of whose consignment they were delivering. The chief fishermen are expected to invite the district directors of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) to physically inspect the consignment on arrival to ensure that quantity as well as the quality of the product are intact before endorsing the forms for the fuel to be discharged.

Alhaji Mustapher Mohammed, the Central Regional Premix Coordinator, made these known at a meeting with chief fishermen in the region. He briefed them on measures government had taken to curb malpractices in the supply and sale of premix fuel. Alhaji Mohammed stressed that without the official stamp of the chief fisherman and BNI officer, any driver conveying premix fuel would be questioned and subsequently arrested.

He urged all chief fishermen to cooperate with the BNI to ensure sanity in the delivery and sale of the product. Alhaji Mohammed lamented that at times fuel meant for a fishing community could be diverted and sold to petrol stations for sale to unsuspecting motorists. He asked fishermen not to buy premix fuel above the approved price of GH¢3.40.
