Government to promote education in Juaben-Kufuor

Juaben (Ash), Nov 1, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor announced that Government would spend 300 million cedis on the improvement of infrastructure at the Juaben Secondary School (SSS) and had also selected the Ejisuman SSS for upgrading into a model school towards the promotion of education in the Juaben area.

He said the government was determined to raise the quality of education in the country and would, therefore, improve conditions at the Teacher Training colleges to enable the institutions turn out good teachers to help achieve this objective.

President John Agyekum Kufuor was speaking at a grand durbar of chiefs and people of Juaben held in his honour on the last leg of his six-day working visit to the Ashanti Region on Monday.

He said: "we have made a difference. We have laid the foundation for accelerated socio-economic development" and asked Ghanaians to stand solidly behind the government and return it to power in the December polls.

Nana Otuo Serebour II, Omanhene of Juaben, on Monday announced that the Ejisu-Juaben District Assembly had collected premiums totalling over 500 million cedis for the operation of the Health Insurance Scheme. He said 25,000 people in the district have subscribed to the scheme, which had become a model with people coming from different areas of the country to understudy it.

The Omanhene, who is a member of the Council of State, praised the government for putting in place the President's Special Initiative (PSI) and focusing on private sector development.

He said under the PSI on Oil Palm, the Juaben Oil Mills had created jobs for 2,000 people and an additional 700 people employed as a result of the sheanut processing plant that had been attached to the facility.

Nana Serebour noted that a lot of developments had taken place in the district over the last four years, saying, as many as 265 projects had been implemented within the period.

He appealed to politicians to ensure that electioneering campaign towards the 2004 Election was devoid of insults and vilifications.
