Otweykrom (C/R), May 6, GNA - Mr Martin Luther Obeng, the District Chief Executive for Agona East, has said the government would continue to supply free uniforms to needy children in deprived areas. He said this when he paid a courtesy call on Obarima Otwey Odetsia X and his elders at Otweykrom to explain some points in connection with the supply school uniforms. Mr Obeng said he had not ordered anybody to collect back some uniforms distributed to some school children. He said he was informed that in January when there was no Chief Executive, the district was supplied with some 2,000 school uniforms for school children in the area.

Mr Obeng said investigations he conducted revealed that Mr Emmanuel Amarterfio, Agona East District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), took delivery of the uniforms.

He said he wrote to Mr Amarterfio to return the uniforms but Mr Amarterfio told him that he sent the uniforms to Mrs Pokua Sawyer in Accra after distributing about 150 pieces to school children at Otweykrom.

Mr Obeng said he directed Mr Amarterfio to return the rest to the Assembly as early as possible but did not request that those already given out to the pupils should be collected back. He expressed regret that some people were reading politics into his action to ensure accountability and have started organizing demonstrations and press conferences against him. Obarima Otwey Odetsia called for unity, understanding and peace among the NDC in the Agona East constituency to ensure fair distribution of free uniforms to needy children. 06 May 11
