Government votes money for rehabilitation of disabled people

Koforidua, Aug. 27, GNA - The Director of Social Welfare, Mrs Mary Amadu, has announced that the Office of the President had voted one billion cedis towards the training and rehabilitation of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

She said the amount would be a revolving fund to raise the standard of living of beneficiaries.

Mrs Amadu who announced this at a meeting with officials of the District Social Welfare in the Eastern Region at Koforidua on Thursday, called on social workers to work hard to ensure the proper rehabilitation of PWDs to enable them contribute to national development.

Concerning child trafficking, Mrs Amadu noted that some parents sold their children to people who engaged them in hazardous work such as fishing especially in the Volta Lake and urged.

The Eastern Regional Director of Social Welfare, Mr M.K. Quaye, asked the officers to involve district assemblies, traditional rulers, churches and non-governmental organizations in their campaign to stop child trafficking.
