Mark Owen Woyongo, Minister of Defence, has said government will continue to resource the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to ensure that they continue to protect the territorial integrity and national resources.

Mr Woyongo said this on Friday at a ceremony organized by the GAF at Burma Camp, as part of activities to formally receive him as the Minister of Defence.

He said it was the duty of government to ensure that the armed forces were adequately equipped to protect the resources of the nation for the benefit of the people.

Mr Woyongo said all he wanted from the armed forces was their loyalty and discipline.

He urged them to continue to be professional in the performance of their duties and to uphold and defence the constitution of Ghana at all times.

He assured the armed forces of government’s continued determination to provide them with adequate accommodation under the public-private scheme.

He said his Ministry was working around the clock to ensure that all outstanding food bills were settled and to maintain timely payment for food supplied to the GAF.

Lieutenant General Peter Augustine Blay, Chief of Defence Staff, assured the Minister of their maximum support in the performance of his duties.

The Minister inspected a guard of honour mounted by 3 officers and 48 ratings from the Ghana Navy.

He visited some units of the GAF within the Burma Camp such as pension, a fish pond, among others to familiarize himself with their operations.
