Government will resource assembly members to deliver - MCE

The Government recognizes the unique role Assembly Members play in the decentralization process and would continue to resource them to deliver, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East, Mr.Frank Okpenyen said on Sunday.

He, therefore, charged Assembly Members not to relent in their efforts to fast-track development in their various communities.

Mr. Okpenyen stated this when he presented 40 motorbikes to Assembly Members to facilitate their work in their various electoral areas.

The MCE also gave two gallons of fuel to each Assembly Member to fuel their motorbikes to facilitate movement in their areas of jurisdiction.

At the presentation ceremony in Axim, the MCE lauded the efforts of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to deepen the local government system by procuring motorbikes to Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies to assist Assembly Members in their work.

The MCE used the occasion to hail the government for donating vehicles to Agricultural Directors across the country and brand new vehicles to MMDCEs to run the Assemblies smoothly.

The MCE who was once an Assemblyman observed that the work of Assembly Members was quite difficult hence they needed the motorbikes and even vehicles in future to discharge their mandate efficiently.

Mr Okpenyen advised them to always maintain their motorbikes and use their crash helmets when riding the bikes to avoid any arrest from the police.

The Presiding Member (PM) for the Assembly, Nana Effati Beyeman, who received the "Supreme star" motorbikes on behalf of the Assembly Members, praised the government for its dedication to assist the assembly, to spear-head development.

He appealed to Assembly Members to use the bikes to visit their electoral areas and explain the government's policies and also bring their concerns to the Assembly for consideration.

The Assembly Member for Bolazo electoral area in Axim, Mr. Alex Wilson Kobina-Obo appealed to the government to pay Assembly Members monthly salaries like Parliamentarians.
