Boadua (E/R), Aug. 31, GNA - The Government has allocated 500 million cedis to the Kwaebibirim District Assembly for the provision of potable water to five towns under the Small Towns Water Supply Project. The towns to be provided with mechanised boreholes are Boadua, Otumi, Kusi, Pramkese and Takorase, where project has been completed. This was announced by President John Agyekum Kufuor when addressing the chiefs and people in the District as part of his four-day official visit to the Eastern Region.
President Kufuor also inaugurated a 205 million cedis block of three classrooms with a Headmaster's Office, Teachers' Common Room, store and library for the Bamenase Junior Secondary School (JSS) also in the District.
President Kufuor said four roads in the district would also be tarred; these are Kade - New Abirem; Kade - Wenchi; Boadua - Akwatia and Kade - Oda.
He said these were being done to attract investors to the area, adding that the Government was seeking for a strategic partner to manage the Ghana Consolidated Diamond (GCD) Company that had be placed on divestiture.
President Kufuor appealed to the chiefs to release more lands and on very good term for investors.
He said the area was well noted for the cultivation of oil palm and that the President's Special Initiative (PSI) on oil palm was determined to increase the current 100,000 hectares under cultivation to about 200,000 hectares to 300,000 hectares within the next four years. "The Government would provide the needed assistance for the production of more seedlings for the programme when more lands are released," he said.
Oseawuo Atwere Bediako, Chief of Akyem Wenchi, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs, said the durbar was a unique one in the annals of the history in the area for the chiefs and people in the District to come together at such a gathering.
He said this was due to the appreciation the chiefs and people had for the efforts of the Government to improve the standard of living of the people.
Oseawuo Bediako appealed to the Government to reactivate the abandoned GCD to create more job opportunities for the youth in the area.
He appealed for an effective and efficient telecommunication facilities and the elevation of the Kade Clinic into a District Hospital.
