Govt commended for tarring Saltpond Hospital roads

Saltpond, May 4, GNA - The Saltpond Government Hospital Administration has commended the government for tarring access roads to the health facility.

Access roads to the Hospital, which was built in 1920, had remained un-tarred and very dusty until now.

Dr Abraham Matey, Medical Superintendent, told the GNA in an interview at Saltpond that the Administration was happy that people would appreciate the services of the Hospital more and patients on admission would no longer contract respiratory diseases due to the dust they inhaled from the dusty environment created by the movement of vehicles in and out of the Hospital.

The Medical Superintendent said the Hospital could now save the huge sums of money spent every week on laundry services. "We are grateful that one of our major problems has been solved and we hope the perennial water problem facing the facility will also be solved soon," Dr Matey said.

Mr Frimpong Hayford, Hospital Administrator, appealed to the electricity company of Ghana to change the over-aged electrical cables at the Hospital to prevent any fire outbreak. He expressed concern about accommodation problems facing the staff of the Hospital and appealed to the government and donor agencies to help to address the problem.

Mr Hayford also appealed for the improvement of facilities at the Hospital's mortuary.
