Govt committed to dev't in Ashanti- Regional Minister

Since the inception of the second term of the NDC government in 2009, a total of one hundred and fifty-three million, seven hundred and forty-five thousand, three hundred and forty-two Ghana cedis has been invested in education at various locations in the Ashanti Region alone.

Educational projects completed include, 868 classroom blocks, 13 dormitories, 13 hostels, 13 assembly halls, 58 teacher bungalows/quarters and 13 dining hall/kitchens.

Others include, 14 ICT centers, 19 school fence walls and 39 kindergarten blocks.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Samuel Sarpong disclosed this at the Ashanti Regional edition of the “government-for-the-people-forum” in Kumasi.

He added that, four districts in the Region, including Sekyere Afram Plains, Adansi North, Obuasi Municipal and Bosomtwe are beneficiaries of the first phase of the Community Day Senior High School being constructed by government nationwide.

Hon. Dr Sarpong, said on health, as part of government’s commitment towards making quality health care accessible to all people in region, an amount of thirteen million, four hundred thousand, seven hundred and seventy-one Ghana cedis have also been spent on various health infrastructure.

According to him these include, 85 health centres and CHIPS compounds, 32 Doctors and nurses quarters. Five children and maternity wards, two district health administration blocks among others.

The Minister added that, currently four modern multi-purpose district hospitals under construction at Bekwai, Tepa, Kumawu and Fomena are at various stages of completion.

Regarding agriculture, Hon. Dr. Sarpong, said government, in recognition of the significant role the sector plays in the development of the country, has through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture been implementing projects and programmes aimed at addressing issues of food security, employment generation and poverty reduction.

He revealed that some of these programmes include, the West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme, WAAP, Root and tuber Improvement and Marketing Preogramme, RTIMP, Northern Rural Growth Project, NRGP, the Block Farm Preogramme, Fertilizer and Seed Subsidy Programme, Sustainable Development of Rain-fed Low-Land Rice Production and the Cockerel Revitalization Project.
