Govt introduces management software in WR

Government with support from France is implementing a management reporting software system at the Western Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

The software is to facilitate timely submission and tracking of reports from the 22 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region.

Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Regional Minister, made this known at the opening of a three-day retreat for metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) at Beyin in the Jomoro District at the weekend.

The event is intended to afford the MMDCEs the opportunity to exchange ideas, fraternise and chart the way forward for the development of their assemblies in order to ensure the provision of quality services, to enhance the standards of living of the people.

The three-day event is on the theme: “Enhancing Local Development: The Roles of the Regional Coordinating Council and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to promote local Development.”

He gave the assurance that the software would soon be installed at the various assemblies to enhance reporting on management issues to the RCC.

Mr Aidoo reiterated the RCC’s commitment to provide technical and administrative expertise to the assemblies and continue providing its constitutional mandate of supervising, monitoring and evaluating assemblies’ projects to accelerate national development.

He charged the assemblies to enforce their bye-laws through proper planning and good organisation to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.

The regional minister entreated the assemblies to take advantage of the public/private partnerships in order to attract investment to boost housing infrastructure, education and health facilities in their areas.

He asked the assemblies to come out with strategic programmes and partner with companies operating in their jurisdiction to implement them to enhance the livelihoods of the people.

The Minister of Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah described the region as the growth pole of the country in view of the massive contribution it makes towards the national economy.

However, he said, despite the numerous resources in the region there are a lot of challenges with insufficient facilities such as health, educational and social facilities and high youth unemployment.

He charged the assemblies to partner companies in their areas so that the people would get maximum benefit.

Mr Armah- Kofi Buah said the government is committed to protect the oil and gas resources of the country to inure to the benefit of the people therefore the Petroleum Revenue Management Act, Public Account Committee and Local Content and Participation policy were introduced to protect the interest of Ghanaians.

He said the Atuabo gas processing plant is producing 100 million Standard Cubic Feet of gas daily to the Aboadze Power Plant for generation of electricity and assured that the frequent power outages would soon come to an end.
