Govt to release 94 million cedis for Gwollu Water Project

Gwollu (U/W), Oct 18, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Monday said the Government would assist the people of the newly created Sissala West District with 94 million cedis from the HIPC fund to cater for the five per cent counterpart funding for the provision of potable water. He announced the assistance package when he was addressing the chiefs and people of the Gwollu Traditional Area on the second day of his three-day official tour of the Upper West Region.

It was in response to an appeal made by the Paramount Chief, the Gwolu Kuoro Kuri Buktie Limann IV. The money will be used to fund the provision of mechanised boreholes under the Small Towns Water Systems Project.

He said the new district was created to ensure that the area was well served and developed.

President kufuor said there would be a lot of developments in the area with the provision of structures for the new district, rehabilitated roads, communication facilities and other social amenities.

He appealed to the people, especially the youth to take advantage of the Youth Leadership Training Institute of Issa to acquire employable skills .

The President said a Senior Secondary School in the area would be upgraded to improve the standard of education there and appealed to the people to avoid petty squabbles or rivalry if any SSS was selected for improvement.

The Gwollu Kuoro, Kuro Buktie Limann, appealed to the government to improve communication, education, roads, an irrigation facilities to encourage an all-year round farming especially in cotton and sorghum in the area.

President Kufuor paid homage to the late Dr Hilla Limann, President of the Third Republic at his graveside on arrival at Gwollu and signed the visitor's book. He addressed a similar durbars at Zini.
