Govt votes 9.430 billion cedis for schools in Atwima

Asenemaso (Ash), June 20, GNA - The Project Implementing Unit of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has voted 9.430 billion cedis to put up seven basic schools in the Atwima District under the District Town IV Project.

The beneficiary communities are Asenemaso, Nkawie-Toase, Nyinahin, Koforidua, Asuofua, Abuakwa and Barekese.

Mr Charles Yeboah, the acting Atwima-Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, said this in a speech read for him at the maiden open day and prize-giving ceremony of Asenemaso Basic School on Friday. The day coincided with a fund-raising harvest in aid of the renovation of the primary school.

Mr Yeboah said 1.4 billion cedis of the amount would be spent on the construction of the Asenemaso School and this consists of a library, kindergarten, toilet and urinals and that the community would contribute over 145.119 million cedis, which 10 per cent of the cost of the project.

Mr Baffour Asare-Bediako, an Assistant Director of Education at the District Education Directorate, expressed the directorate's satisfaction with the level of collaboration between the school and the community, which he said, has enhanced quality teaching and learning. Mr Richard Kwarteng, the Headteacher, said the Parent/Teacher Association has put up two classrooms for the JSS.

He expressed concern about the persistent defecation in the classrooms and called on the perpetrators to desist from the act. Nana Opoku Agyemang Appianim III, Asenemasohene who presided, promised to award scholarships to brilliant but needy pupils in the school.

Earlier, the pupils had undertaken clean-up exercise at the Abuakwa Health Centre and the market.
