Graduates urged to be creative

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong has charged the 61 graduating students of the Liberty Specialist Institute to be creative and use the knowledge gained to establish their own businesses.

She said there are so many opportunities in the catering and the hospitality industry that they could capitalize on, and that, with commitment, they could be successful.

Madam Frimpong was addressing the 27th graduation ceremony of the Liberty Specialist Institute, a private catering institute, on the theme "The role of the private sector; equipping the youth for employment" at Koforidua.

She said government was committed to supporting the youth through the YES initiative and advised the graduates to put together a proposal to get some support from the initiative.

Rev Mrs Edna Ametameh, Director of the Institute, urged the graduates to go out and create their own jobs and not to depend solely on white colour jobs, which at times are non-existing.

She said, with the advancement of technology, new challenges emerge in the industry and the Institute is doing everything possible to generate new programmes for the benefit of the teeming youth.

Mr Henry Akondo , the Principal of the School said, over the past 26 years, over 3,000 youths have successfully passed through the institution and are doing well in the job market.

He appealed to the public and organizations to assist the school to acquire a bus and complete an ongoing assembly hall project.

The 61 graduating students are made up of 58 females and three males, graduating in various courses, including hospitality and catering management, food and beverage services, accommodation operation and services, cookery for the catering industry and advanced craft and fashion designing technology.
