A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament-elect from constituencies in the Greater Accra Region have showered praise on President-elect John Dramani Mahama for leading the NDC to its most significant victory since the days of party founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, the Greater Accra NDC MPs, through MP-elect for Tema East, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, also lauded the Regional Chairman of the party, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, for what they described as his legendary leadership.

“The 2024 victory for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is the most iconic of the Fourth Republic, and in the Greater Accra Region, the NDC so asserted its dominance that we cannot but stand in awe of our leader, the President-elect, and our Regional Chairman, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore,” said Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, MP-elect for Tema East.

According to him, this victory “has established the NDC as the leading political force in the country, especially in the Greater Accra Region, as the most winsome party of the Fourth Republic. Going into the elections, some doubted our chances, but our Regional Chairman and our flagbearer always had strategic plans.”

Out of 34 seats in the capital region, the NDC won 31, 11 more than the 20 seats the party held in the region following the 2020 elections.

In the presidential election, President Mahama secured 1,260,832 votes out of 1,977,079 total valid votes cast.

The parliamentary seats won by the NDC in the Greater Accra Region represent the highest tally achieved by the party since the advent of the Fourth Republic.

Interestingly, the Regional Chairman had initially promised to secure five additional seats, bringing the NDC’s total to 25. However, the party exceeded expectations, capturing 11 additional seats.

“As MPs-elect from the Greater Accra Region, we are humbled by the brilliance of our Regional Chairman, who provided the strategic framework and was deeply involved in the training of our polling agents. This ensured that, unlike in 2020, there was absolute vigilance this time around," Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten said on behalf of the MPs-elect.

“To think that Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore led us to snatch 11 seats from the New Patriotic Party while they were in government evokes nothing but respect for our Regional Chairman,” he added.

The MPs-elect also praised President Mahama, stating that his comeback would remain a source of inspiration for politicians in Ghana.

“We thank you, President Mahama, that the one-term president tag never stuck on you, and by extension, on all of us in the NDC.

"With your victory, you have led the NDC to take the lead again in the inter-party tally of election victories. From victory to victory, the NDC shall indeed lead.”

Hon. Ashai Odamtten highlighted that out of nine elections held in the Fourth Republic so far, the NDC has won five, compared to the NPP’s four.

“Meanwhile, we express our deep gratitude to all the executives of our party, from the national level to the branch level, for stepping out in your numbers after voting to ensure that our victories were not overturned during collation.

"Special thanks go to our National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, organizers, and most especially our polling station officers, for their yeoman’s job.

"In Tema East, we commend key figures such as Leader of the Women’s Caucus, Joselyn Quansah, Constituency Organizer Evans Amarh, Richster Nii Amarh Amarfio, Theophilus Ankama Densu Tetteh, and Osmanu Ashitey, among others, for their outstanding contributions,” he concluded.
