Guli Islamic Primary School holds maiden Speech and Prize Giving Day

Guli, (U/W), July 20, GNA - Guli Islamic Primary School, located in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region on Tuesday held its maiden Speech and Prize Giving Day to honour its hard working staff and pupils. In all, 28 pupils and three teachers were awarded.

The pupils took prizes for brilliant academic performance, personal hygiene and good behaviour while the teachers were honoured for their dedication and commitment to duty.

The occasion was also used to commission a six-unit classroom block constructed at the cost GH¢150,000.00 by the Wa Municipal Assembly with funds from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

Mr. Yakubu Duogu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), commended the Head teacher and his staff, the Parents Teacher Association (PTA) and the School Management Committee (SMC) for organizing the ceremony to award hard working staff and pupils of the school.

He said Speech and Prize Giving Days constituted an important land mark in the annals of educational institutions because of the motivation it gave to the pupils, staff and workers of those institutions.

The MCE said education went hand in hand with high moral standards and educational institutions therefore owe it a duty to maintain such standards through strict enforcement of discipline among students.

Mr. Duogu said government was improving on educational infrastructure to create a congenial atmosphere for teaching and learning.

He urged the school authorities and members of the community to take proper care of the newly commissioned classroom block to enable it benefit the pupils.

Mr. Braimah Adams Jonathan, Head teacher of the School, said the school was established in October 2008 and currently had a population of 290 pupils comprising 142 boys and 148 girls.

He said the pupils were fed in the school through the contribution of parents and appealed to the MCE to put the school on the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).

Mr. Salifu Iddrisu, Municipal Director of Education, commended the Assembly for putting up the new classroom block for the school and urged the community members to ensure that all children of school going age were enrolled in the school.

Naa Seidu Braimah, Chief of Guli, who expressed his profound gratitude to the government and the Assembly, pledged his commitment to pay special attention to the development of the school.

He also appealed to the Municipal Assembly to construct a borehole on campus in order to prevent the pupils from going home during classes with the excuse of going to drink water.
