Gwira-Akyinim gets community centre

The 2012 flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, on Tuesday, commissioned and handed over a Community Center to the people of Gwira- Akyinim in the Komenda Edina Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) Municipality.

The edifice, which would be used for social gatherings and other community activities, was financed by the Groupe Nduom Foundation, and was named after the father-in-law of Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, John Sterlin.

Dr. Nduom called on the people to maintain a high sense of morality in the community, since the cause of cholera and other communicable diseases were as a result of unclean environments, and advised them to eschew dumping refuse at inappropriate places.

He asked the chiefs and opinion leaders to release some lands to him for the building of toilet facility for them to avoid open-air defecation. Dr. Nduom advised the people to keep the place clean and healthy, as well as adopting the maintenance culture for the facility to last longer.

The community, therefore, conferred the title “Nkosuohen” (Development Chief) on Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom. On her part the Queen of Gwira Akyinim, Nana Tseasewa III, on behalf of the leaders and people of the community, commended Dr. Nduom for his continuous support.

She gave the assurance that her outfit will make sure the edifice is taken good care of and used for its rightful purpose, and also appealed to other stakeholders and philanthropists to come to their aid.

Nana Tseasewa III advised the people of the community, especially the royal family, to be united to enhance development, adding that a community without peace hinders development. She, therefore, urged the youth in the area to spearhead peace negotiations among the members of the royal family.
