Accra, July 7, GNA - The Old Students of Hohoe EP Secondary School have given awards to 21 old boys and girls who have contributed to the development of the school and country at its maiden Honours Day celebration in Tema.
The awards, initiated by Mr Simon Fefeti, a Chartered Accountant, were in four categories, namely Entrepreneurial, General Services, Education and Public Services. Professor Willie Anku of the Music Department of the University of Ghana, Professor Yao Tettey of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Dr. Pinto Akotia were among those who received awards in the Education category.
Mr. John Adom and Mrs. Doris Nkani, CEO of Phoenix Insurance Company Ltd were the only two recipients in the Entrepreneurial category.
Those who took awards in the Public Service division are Mr Justice Senyo Dzamefe and Mr Emmanuel Ayebi, Dr. Henry Wampah, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister and Mr Victor Condobrey, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive.
The rest are Madam Grace Adzroe, the Deputy Controller and Accountant General, Col. Theophilus Tawiah, Marshall of Parliament, Mr Eric Norgbe, the Deputy Commissioner of VAT and Mr Benjamin Egbenu. The following also received awards in the General Service Division: Mr Seth Adzah, Mrs Patricia Tegbe Agbo, Mr Seth Daflagbe and Mr Godwin Gedzeve.
Other are Mr John M.K. Osei-Nyansah, Headmaster of HEPSS, and Albert Komla Heh, the Assistant Headmaster of HEPSS. In a sermon the Rev. Benjamn Agbola, Chaplain of Mafi Kumasi Secondary-Technical School and a HEPSSOSAN, likened society to a ship sailing in a perilous storm where all efforts to save it had proved unsuccessful.
He asked Ghanaians to draw very close to God by knowing His word, storing it in their hearts and using it as a weapon against the devil anytime he decides to strike. Rev. Agbola appealed to politicians to think carefully before taking decisions to avoid the tendency of blaming the devil for their own miscalculations.
The Volta Regional Minister, Joseph Amenowode, appealed to old boys and girls not to forget their alma mater since that is the foundation of their academic achievements. The Headmaster of the school, Mr John Osei-Nyansah, brought to the fore problems facing the school and asked the old boys and girls to assist in solving them. The school which started with only 11 students in 1961 now has a population of 860 students out of which 411 are girls. Preparations would soon be launched for the school's Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2011. 07 July 09
