HFC Bank to construct classroom block for school

Accra, April 27, GNA - The HFC Bank is to construct a six-classroom block for the Kotobabi "2A" Primary School to give comfort to both teache= rs and pupils as well as enhance teaching and learning.

The project, which cost and duration were not disclosed, is to repla= ce the school's existing shed-like structure that is a source of worry to teachers and pupils especially during rainy and windy. Nana Agyei Duku, Board Chairman of HFC Bank, cut the sod for the commencement of the project at the school's premises at Kotobabi in the T= ema Metropolis on Tuesday. In a statement, Mr Asare Akuffo, Managing Director of HFC Bank said the project, which was in line with the bank's social responsibility to its catchments, formed part of activities to mark the HFC's 20-years of existence in the country.

Mr Akuffo said HFC Bank, which began operations as Home Finance Comp= any before its incorporation into a full-fledged financial institution in 200= 3, bought the first set of homes for its customers at the Kotobabi area, add= ing "it is appropriate that we remember the town and come to develop the scho= ol during our 20th anniversary". He said the development of education especially at the basic level w= as dear to the bank noting this underscored its investment in the sector and mentioned Asante Akyem as one of the areas that it supported basic school infrastructure development.

Mr Akuffo said the bank had made tremendous gains over the years disclosing that its total asset had grown to GH¢268 million. He said the bank would this year embark on a massive home infrastructure development and called on the public to do business with i= t to enable them to benefit from the home finance package. Mrs Philomena Baltes, Deputy Director, Human Resource Management Department of the Tema Metro Education expressed appreciation to the bank for coming to the aid of the school. She urged the Bank to move beyond the construction by offering scholarships to brilliant but needy pupils in the school. Ms Gifty Mawusi, Headmistress of the school thanked HFC Bank for th= e intervention saying this should end the perennial discomfort that teacher= s and pupils faced in terms of wind and rain and the abuse of property by residents who visited the compound during weekends and holidays. The Kotobabi (2A) Primary School was constructed in 1977 and current= ly has a population of 530.
