Kramokrom (Ash), July 8, GNA- Kramokrom, a farming community near Dwease in the Asante Akim North Municipality of the Ashanti Region, now has a Junior High School (JHS).
The construction of the three-classroom block with an office was funded by the Home Finance Company (HFC) bank in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly.
The school which would also serve communities such as Anumso and Adumkrom would be opened next academic year.
Mr. Asare Akuffo, Managing Director of HFC bank, speaking at commissioning of the block on Monday, said the bank considered education as crucial to nation building and had over the years being funding projects to promote education in the country. He said that with the increasing number of enrolment in schools following the introduction of the Capitation Grant and other government educational policies, it was incumbent on corporate bodies to contribute to the promotion of education.
Mr Akuffo said the gesture formed part of the bank's corporate responsibility and urged the people to enrol their children in the school to serve the purpose for which it was built. Mr. George Frimpong, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said that the construction of the school would prevent children from Kramokrom and its environs from walking to nearby communities to attend JHS. He commended the bank for its contribution to the development of education in the municipality and appealed to the financial institution to build teachers' quarters to encourage teachers to accept postings to the area.
Mr Frimpong cautioned the people against the practice of child labour and urged them to send their children to school. In an effort to encourage school enrolment, the MCE announced that the assembly would give exercise books free of charge to the first 30 children who would be sent to the JHS.
