HIPC funded projects in Kwaebibirem district

Akwatia (E/R), Aug. 19, GNA - The Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye has announced that the first phase of projects to be executed in the District from the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Fund had been successfully completed at the total cost of 747.2 million cedis.

Addressing the District Assembly at its second ordinary meeting at Kade on Monday, he listed the projects to include blocks of three classrooms with teachers common room, office and store and library for the Local Authority (L/A) Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) at Bamenase, A.M.E. Zion JSS at Akwatia and a 20-seater W.C. toilet with water system at Kade.

He said 500 million cedis out of the total HIPC money allocated to the District was used to partly finance the three projects, which cost 747.2 million cedis.

He explained that the District Assembly paid the difference of 247.2 million cedis out of its share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund (DACF).

Mr Yiadom-Boakye said the rehabilitation of 31.15 kilometres of roads under the Village Infrastructure Project in the District had been completed and handed over to the assembly at a total cost of 2.54 billion cedis.

Some of the roads are the Topremang-Agbodzi-Atampatia; Asuom-Old Ntronang-Domunomu and Asubone to Anweaso.

The DCE announced that 724 million cedis has been approved for additional works to be carried out to complete the first phase of the Urban Five Project at Akwatia.

The project consists the paving of the Akwatia lorry park, which is in progress. Already security lights have been provided at the lorry park and water hydrant installed.

Mr Yiadom-Boakye announced that preparations towards the second phase of the Urban IV programme had begun and that proposals for the supervision of works under that phase have been received from a number of consultants and after evaluation the best among them would be selected to supervise the project.
