HIV/AIDS peer educators' group inaugurated

Agona Duakwa (C/R), Oct. 18, GNA - A ten-member HIV/AIDS peer educators' group has been inaugurated at Agona Duakwa to create awareness on the dangers of the pandemic.

The group will campaign in the churches, houses, market places and other social gatherings, against the fast spreading the disease. Inaugurating the group, Nana Kofi Abede, Community Based Organization (CBO) Contact Person at Duakwa, tasked the group to embark on a vigorous education in the communities to expose the dangers of the HIV/AIDS scourge.

Nana Abede, who is also Omankrado of Agona Duakwa, called on the chiefs, queen mothers and Assembly members in the area to complement the efforts of NGOs in the campaign against the killer disease. He said HIV/AIDS was heavily damaging the socio-economic advancement of the nation.

Nana Abede called on the government to institute stiffer punishment to Community Based Organizations and NGO who are found to have mismanaged the funds meant for the HIV/AIDS campaign. Mrs Susana Addison, an Education Counsellor, asked partners to remain faithful to each other so as to eliminate the risk of contracting the disease.

Mrs Addison called on the sexually active youth to use condoms if necessary but warned that condoms should never be considered as a guarantee to indulge in indiscriminate sex.
