Hairdresser expresses concern about fake hair products

Kumasi, March 25, GNA - Mrs Alima Seini, President of Ashanti Regional branch of Ghana Progressive Hairdressers and Beauticians Association has expressed concern about the increase in fake hair products on the market that was affecting their operations. She has therefore, appealed to Government, law enforcement agencies and other organizations to help rid the market of such products to enhance their work.

Mrs Seini was speaking at the fourth graduation of 65 apprentices of the association after their three-year training course in Kumasi. She noted that lack of credit facilities were a major obstacle facing members of the association and appealed to Government, National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) and other financial institutions to provide them with loans to expand their businesses. Mrs Seini announced that the association collected 12 million cedis in taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) last year and advised members to continue with their commitment to pay taxes to help develop the country.

However, she expressed dismay at the manner authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) fixed taxes for the association and other professional bodies and called on the assembly to involve them in the fee-fixing exercise.

Mrs Seini said the association had more than 600 members and 1,000 apprentices and was established to promote welfare of members. She stressed the need of the members to pay their dues and attend meetings regularly to enable them deliberate on issues that would enhance their welfare.

Mrs Seini appealed to the graduates to strive and set up their own businesses to improve their livelihood and contribute positively towards the socio-economic development of the country. She advised the members to refrain from sexual promiscuity to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's). The graduates were presented with certificates.
