Jirapa (UW/R), June 5, GNA - Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister for Women and Children's Affairs on Sunday donated items valued at 3.6 million cedis to the Jirapa St. Joseph's Orphanage. The items were made up of two bales of used children's clothes for the inmates and four cartons of bar Key Soap. Presenting the items, Hajia Alima said taking care of orphans was a collective responsibility of everybody and urged the people not to shirk their responsibilities by leaving the children to their fate. She appealed to proprietors of orphanages not to turn them into commercial entities to make profit, but rather focus on how to take good care of the inmates to grow up to be responsible adults. She called on those, who intended adopting the orphans to go through the normal procedures in order not to violate any human rights. Rev. Fr. Peter Paul Yelletuo, chaplain of the orphanage, who received the items, commended the Minister for the gesture, adding that, it would go a long way to support the authorities to solve some of the problems of the orphanage. In a related development, Northern Women Foundation an NGO also donated baby foods and toiletries to the orphanage.
