Tarkwa, Sept 19, GNA - Heads of Christian churches at Tarkwa on Tuesday condemned lesbianism and homosexuality at a meeting they held at Tarkwa.

They said the practice was not Ghanaian, uncultured and unacceptable by Biblical teaching.

The meeting brought together 15 heads of churches and church representatives under the chairmanship of the Methodist Bishop of Tarkwa Diocese, Right Reverend John Adubah.

They commended the government for the swift intervention that prevented a conference homosexuals and lesbians wanted to hold in Accra.

The meeting called on religious organisations, civil society organizations and all well meaning Ghanaians to stand up against this practice that is gradually eating into the fabric of the Ghanaian society.

The meeting expressed regret that some preachers of the word were deeply involved in this practice.

The meeting also discussed the cocaine issue and said it was dangerous because of the high-ranking security personnel whose names have been mentioned.

It urged the government to bring the culprits to book and said if drug barons "mingle with the government they will bring the general administration of the state to ridicule by dictating to it." "The respect and confidence a nation stands to gain in the comity of nation will wane. It is a pity that high ranking Ghanaians are now subjected to thorough search before going through immigration in London and elsewhere."
