Nankesedo (C/R), Jan. 28, GNA - The Mfantseman District HIV/AIDS Focal Person, Mr. Jonathan Benefo has urged heads of department to organise a monthly meetings to educate their workers on HIV/AIDS. Arrangements should be made for video clips on the disease to be shown to those who did not believe in the existence of the disease. Mr. Benefo said since the disease was no longer a health problem alone but also a developmental one, no sacrifice should be regarded as too great in the fight against the disease.

Addressing a workshop organised by Ted Kastle Promotions, an NGO, he cautioned the people not to assume that enough awareness about the disease had been created and that there was no need to talk about it any more, saying that although Christians knew more about Jesus Christ and his teachings they continued to preach and listen to his messages. The workshop was organised for the NGOs trained peer educators to assess their performance and to map-out strategies to fight the disease. Mr. Benefo commended the NGO for organising the workshop even though it had exhausted its support from the AIDS Commission and appealed to other organisations not to wait for the GARFUND before engaging in the campaign.

Miss Christine Antor, a Principal Public Health Nursing Officer and the District HIV/AIDS Co-ordinator gave statistics to support her claim that the disease was still spreading in the district.

Miss Antor exhorted Ghanaians to change their sexual behaviour, adding that: "We cannot talk about curbing the spread of the disease when we continue to indulge in indiscriminate and unprotected sex."

Mr. Francis Ejaaku Donkoh, the Executive Director of Fed Kastle Promotions assured the educators of the organisation's support and urged them to intensify the campaign to save the people from perishing.
