Health institutions asked to keep proper records of activities

Daboase (W/R) Aug. 4, GNA- Dr Kwaku Anin Karikari, Mpohor Wassa East District Director of Health Services said improper record keeping by some sub-district health centres, could affect various interventions introduced by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

He said every innovation and service provided by the GHS should be properly documented to make it easier for reference and develop information data.

Dr Karikari was opening the 2004 mid-year review meeting of the district at Daboase on Wednesday.

He said lack of documentation could not enable the service to update its records on skilled staff operating in the district.

Dr Karikari expressed regret that though several health personnel were working in various communities, most of them did not give account of their stewardship.

"We are not making conscious efforts to access the impact of all the resources that the government was putting in our work", he stressed. Dr. Karikari said the five-year programme of work target set by the GHS, is meant to make health care accessible to all.

He charged all health personnel to live up to expectation and ensure that their health delivery skills were properly developed and used. Mr Edward Tawiah Amprofi, the District Chief Executive said government's focus on eliminating malaria, prevention of typhoid, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and the HIV/AIDS should be taken seriously.

He reminded them that the success of such programmes depended on the collective efforts of health personnel.

Mr Amprofi urged them to ensure that reviewed programmes became effective for the eradication of most of the health problems in the district.

Mrs Veronica Anza-Cobbinah, who represented a women's group of the District Health Committee said being part of the review process, would enable them to find solutions to some of the health needs of the district.

She said the health needs of the district were numerous and appealed to all stakeholders to assist in solving them.
